When: Sept 9 – 10, 2021 | 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm CT

This two-day workshop will introduce participants to the importance of protecting student privacy through responsible and ethical data use. Data privacy and data ethics are topics rarely addressed in educator preparation but became increasingly important over the past few years as the pandemic introduced new challenges to educators. The first day will explain data privacy and data ethics, why the concepts are essential to educators’ practice, and the role that educator preparation programs can and must play in helping future educators to be data literate. The second day will provide an opportunity for the participants to engage in and work with scenario-based resources that have been developed to address the topics. Participants will interact with the materials and learn how they can be integrated into existing preparation programs’ curricula. Participants will also have an opportunity to provide the developers with feedback about the fit and appropriateness of the resources in their institutions. The resources and user’s guides will be made available to all participants and institutions with an objective of broad dissemination.
